UmaimonApp is a game which uses a dynamically adaptive algorithm to teach anyone, regardless of ability, to recognize signs and printed material commonly encountered while dining out in Japan or in a Japanese restaurant.

This game presents one phrase at a time and three choices for a translation, one of which is correct. You make a guess and if you guessed correctly, you get a green check mark and if you guessed wrong, you see a red check mark. In either case, the correct answer is shown to you for a brief time so you can learn the correct answer.

Your personal 'accuracy' measure is at the top right of your screen when playing and is expressed as a percentage. Your accuracy is calculated as your correct answers divided by the number of questions you have answered. For example, if you have answered 4 questions and got 3 right, your accuracy is 75%.
If you can maintain a 25% accuracy you can get to level 4, if you can maintain a 50% accuracy, you can progress between level 5 to 9 and after that you need to maintain a 75% accuracy to progress each level. In this way, the game adapts to how quickly you are learning, allowing you to learn at your own pace. You are exposed to a small number of phrases until you've demonstrated that you know them, and then you are exposed to more and can get to a higher level.
